-Interview Questions and Responses-
1. “What’s a common myth about Independent Artists and can you debunk it?”
It’s a pretty common myth that Independent artists can only find success in a “right place at the right time” scenario. With the music industry being so heavily saturated, artists end up feeling like a needle in a haystack. You can have amazing talent and a great sound but how are people going to discover your music? I have a love/hate relationship with the internet. I love how accessible everything is but at the same time, I’m not a fan of having to fight an uphill battle with the algorithms on social media and music platforms. However, I learned first hand how to debunk this myth. It’s a simple concept yet very time-consuming. You just have to put in the work!
2. “What advice would you give to someone wanting to enter the music industry?”
Don’t rely so heavily on other people. If you want to embark on this journey, you need to be the one to push yourself and find who you are as a musician. I spent many years playing in bands and it seemed like no one was ever as driven as I am. I felt like it held me back in a lot of ways because I invested my time and energy into projects instead of growing individually. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great to collaborate with other musicians and you can learn a lot from other people. You just need to be in control of your goals and aspirations.
3. “Are there any resources or even advice that have really helped you on your journey?”
Having my parent’s love and support has made this journey possible for me. I can’t thank them enough for providing me with years of piano, guitar and vocal lessons. They were always willing to invest in the gear I needed and even paid for some studio time. My dad actually gave me some of the best advice growing up. He was always so adamant about me getting my education but encouraged me to do what made me happy.
4. “What has been your biggest accomplishment in your career thus far?”
My new solo album is definitely my biggest accomplishment so far. The amount of time, energy and passion I put into it has helped me grow so much as an artist and person. I’m proud of myself for stepping out of my comfort zone and challenging myself to push the boundaries.
.
5. “What do you wish you had known when you started out?”
The amount of work and dedication it takes to be successful. I didn’t exactly know what I was getting myself into when I started and I didn’t realize that writing and playing music was only a small part of the big picture.
6. “What led you to becoming a singer-songwriter?”
At a very young age I noticed I had a natural gift for music. I could hear a melody and play it on the piano before I even started taking piano lessons. Around age 7 I started to write my own melodies and lyrics. The feeling of creating something original was so fulfilling. It’s a unique kind of high that I can’t really put into words. I was hooked ever since.
7. “What do you think is your unique skill(s) that has helped you become successful?”
Being able to critique myself and my work with an unbiased perspective has definitely helped.
I know I’m not the only one with this ability but it’s hard for a lot of people to step outside of themselves and evaluate.
8. “How was your journey to what you do
Now?”
My journey was filled with a lot of twists and turns and obstacles I had to overcome. Battling anxiety and depression has made it difficult at times but it also has given me a lot of writing inspiration.
9. “How did this project begin?”
It all began when I moved back to Texas in 2020 after a horrible break-up with my boyfriend/bass player of 10 years. In 2016, me and my former band, Cupid’s Victim, decided to pursue music in Philadelphia. For four years we played shows in Pennsylvania, Delaware, and New Jersey. However, the lack of commitment from band mates and my failing relationship left me no choice but to move back to my hometown. Heartbroken and completely defeated, my only coping mechanism was to write about my experiences.
10. “What makes this project different from “past projects?”
Up until 3 years ago, I had only ever played with bands. I never had the courage to become a solo artist and was always terrified of the thought of doing everything on my own. This is my very first solo album. On the album I’m singing and playing bass, guitar, keyboard, and even helped program drum beats for two of the tracks.
.
11. “What’s the inspiration behind this project?”
My break-up was a big inspiration for this album. It was a huge turning point in my life and inspired me to tell my story.
12. “What word or phrase would you use to describe this project?”
Unapologetically me.
13. “How can listeners get in touch with or support you?”
They can reach out to me on my social media pages or sign my email list on my website.
14. “What is coming up for you in the near future?”
I’m working on hiring some musicians to start playing live. Also, I’m about to start writing my next album!
.
15. “Many people believe that becoming a musical artist is challenging to the point it
becomes overwhelming and too much to handle. Why do you think people believe that?”
They believe that because it’s TRUE! Not everyone is cut out for this industry. It’s extremely cut-throat and it takes a lot of work that some people might not have the time for or patience for.
16. “What’s the most common reason for people failing or giving up?”
Setting their expectations too high and not being okay with failing over and over again. You have to be persistent and determined no matter what is thrown at you.
.
17. “What is your favorite word?”
Fortitude. It’s a consistent theme in my album. Most of these songs are about having the strength to overcoming my fears and difficulties.
18. “What are you not very good at?”
Making friends. Since moving back to Texas I’ve only made one new friend. I’m not that type of person that has to constantly be surrounded by a group of people. I like to keep my circle small and spend most of my time working on my music.
19. “If you could have one superpower, what would it be?”
I’d love to be able to time travel.
20. “If you were a type of food, what type of food would you be?”
Dessert. I’ve been told I’m super sweet so I think I would translate well as a dessert item lol.
21. “If you could switch lives with someone for a day, who would you choose?”
Max Martin. I’d love to be able to work on songwriting and production with some big artists.
