Multi-platinum, JUNO Award winning Rock icon and Canadian Songwriters Hall Of Fame inductee, ex-Max Webster leader Kim Mitchell<\/strong> announces the surprise release of his brand new single \u201cWishes<\/strong>\u201d on June 26th<\/sup> and coincides with the highly anticipated release of his forthcoming new album, \u201cThe Big Fantasize<\/strong>\u201d (El Mocambo Records), the first full-length recording since 2007\u2019s \u201cAin\u2019t Life Amazing\u201d.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

When it comes to \u201cWISHES\u201d, the way the song came to be is just as poetic as its original inspiration. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe lyrics literally fell into my lap one day in a waiting room,\u201d the Gold and Multi-Platinum selling singer\/songwriter and guitarist recalls. \u201cAfter very randomly reading A.C. Child\u2019s poem \u2018WISHES,\u2019 I knew immediately I wanted to turn it into a song.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAfter writing the verses, I quickly realized that, while the poem itself felt complete, now being in a song, it didn\u2019t anymore. It needed something lyrically and musically to sum up the whole idea. The challenge would be coming up with a melody and music that would harmonically be satisfying to me, yet present itself as simple, pretty, and serving the lyric.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt also needed a musical deviation somewhere\u2026 A short, musical passage you could just float away with before coming back to the song\u2019s final thought.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even for one of the country\u2019s most ubiquitously heralded songwriters \u2014 one who is also soon to be inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame \u2014 sometimes these things click instantly, and sometimes\u2026 They don\u2019t. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOf all the 150 or so songs I\u2019ve written in my career, \u2018WISHES\u2019 took the longest to finish,\u201d Mitchell shares. \u201cIt took patience. Lots of trial and error, and for years. I\u2019d leave it for months, come back and work on it, leave it again, and then come back. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThen, one peaceful morning looking out my front window, the refrain just happened for me while I was vibing on my acoustic guitar. I wasn\u2019t even searching, but there it was! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSometimes you don\u2019t search for a part, you wait for it to arrive.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A similar sentiment could be considered for The Big Fantasize<\/em>, Mitchell\u2019s forthcoming full-length release and the vehicle of sorts for \u201cWISHES.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt was like that classic old car that\u2019s been in the garage for a while,\u201d Mitchell muses about the album. \u201cYou know, the one you\u2019re going to strip down and restore \u2018cause you know there\u2019s something special there, but you just never seem to get around to it.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Marking his 13th studio offering \u2014 including the five as the leader of Max Webster \u2014 and first in just as many years since 2007\u2019s Ain\u2019t Life Amazing<\/em>, The Big Fantasize<\/em> is the result of sleeves rolled up alongside co-producer and close friend Greg Wells (Keith Urban, Adele, Taylor Swift, Twenty One Pilots). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Turns out, there was something pretty sweet hiding under the hood\u2026 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Where its predecessor was a fiery and fierce rock album, anchored by big riffs and bigger swagger, The Big Fantasize<\/em> is a more dynamic and musically expansive effort that perfectly encapsulates Mitchell\u2019s prowess as a pure and compelling songwriter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His countless signature anthems permanent fixtures of Canadiana 101, the three-time JUNO Award winner has sold over 1.5 Million recordings and toured endlessly over the course of his storied career \u2014 which also included a fan-favourite 11 year tenure hosting The Kim Mitchell Show on Toronto\u2019s Q107. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c\u2018Grant me these before I die and I\u2019ll ask no more of life,\u2019\u201d he says aloud, citing a lyric from \u201cWISHES.\u201d \u201cThat line can make my eyes misty some days\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNormally your title is \u2018composer\u2019 when working on a new song,\u201d Mitchell considers. \u201cFor \u2018WISHES,\u2019 my title seemed to be song\u2019s roadie, or perhaps its personal assistant. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI hope I served it well.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
