1. “What’s a common myth about Independent Artists and can you debunk it?<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
I don’t know any common myths right off hand about independent artists.\u00a0 It’s more like the reality they have to face in really getting their music heard commercially if they really pursue that course.\u00a0 About the only myth that comes to mind if any is that their music isn’t as worth of airplay as A-list artist or stars; occasionally the music of some indie artists has far more appeal than some A-listers.<\/div>\n

2. “What advice would you give to someone wanting to enter the music industry?”<\/div>\n
Sharpen your musical skills and have patience.\u00a0 There’s several million musicians throughout the world seeking to be heard on the major music streaming services, and only a small percentage of those really get in through the door as far as having many thousands or even millions of listens for a given song, whether it’s as a single or on an EP or album.\u00a0 Sharpening you musical skills, including songwriting, will promote a heartfelt professional sound to stand out from the crowd, as well as to appreciate your own music apart from an audience.\u00a0 And it can take years, not months, to build up to success, such as building an awareness among the public about your music.\u00a0 Audiences have to get to know you first in conjunction with a learning curve for upcoming artists in effectively marketing their music.\u00a0 If you’re just playing open mics for fun and only doing it locally, then all this wouldn’t really apply.\u00a0 It depends on how high your aspirations are.<\/div>\n

3. “Are there any resources or even advice that have really helped you on your journey?”<\/div>\n
Support from or camaraderie with fellow musicians.<\/div>\n

4. “What has been your biggest accomplishment in your career thus far?”<\/div>\n
Getting heard on radio, both FM and internet.\u00a0 It’s not reached critical mass yet, but at least getting on to several radio stations or programs is better than nothing, at least in the early stages.<\/div>\n

5. \u201cWhat do you wish you had known when you started out?\u201d<\/div>\n
An emphasis on marketing\/PR.\u00a0 A good song is one term of the equation, yet the other term is marketing\/PR.\u00a0 If you don’t actively promote your songs, whether through a PR agency the specializes in music promotion, or other similar means, the song likely won’t have the reach.\u00a0 Don’t take for granted that the song by itself will carry the day.<\/div>\n

6. “What led you to becoming a singer-songwriter?”<\/div>\n
.Instilled at birth.\u00a0 I don’t think I “became” a singer-songwriter, rather I was born to be one, whether professionally or just as a hobby.<\/div>\n
\n7. “What do you think is your unique skill(s) that has helped you become successful?”<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
Being able to play several instruments, rather than being focused exclusively one one.\u00a0 I can play keyboards, rhythm guitar, percussion, and can sing.\u00a0 It provides a wide musical perspective that opens up more possibilities for songwriting and performing.<\/div>\n

8. “How was your journey to what you do
\nNow?”<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
Somewhat of a roller coaster ride, with twists and turns and peaks and valleys, in terms of the music as an art and business.\u00a0 Fortunately nothing too bumpy or dramatic.<\/div>\n

9. “How did this project begin?”<\/div>\n
My most recent project, the This Town EP, began after I did a cover of Nanci Griffith’s “Love at the Five and Dime”.\u00a0 She was among several songwriters, especially involving folk music, who inspired my music during my formative years.\u00a0 When I heard that she had died back in 2021, I experienced a bit of grief over the loss.\u00a0 So the cover of her song as such was a tribute to her and her musical legacy.\u00a0 It generated songwriting momentum that I hadn’t had in years, whereby the momentum got me to subsequently do the This Town EP.<\/div>\n

10. “What makes this project different from “past projects?”<\/div>\n
It’s more folk rock, whereby it incorporates more acoustic guitar, and less of a synth sound.<\/div>\n
