After 12 years, why was now the right time to break the silence with “Glimpse the Sun”? What was the catalyst that finally brought the band fully back together?
We felt like we needed a song that was relevant to today’s society and also something that could be an anthem of sorts. The catalyst that brought the bands back together would probably be the huge response we got when we finally uploaded all of our old albums to streaming platforms for the first time in over a decade. -Aaron
We wanted a song to show everyone that, even though we’re all older, we weren’t changing up our style. I believe the catalyst that finally brought us all together was finding our notes for a concept album that we made 12 years ago. -Kenny
The song is about breaking free from societal expectations to “find one’s inner light.” After over a decade away, what personal or societal expectations did the band itself have to break free from to return?
I think the biggest thing to overcome was our own shadow per se. We accomplished a lot in our first run as a band and it felt like a mountain to climb to reach the heights we were at when we broke up. -Aaron
The biggest thing for me was not trying to change our sound in order to match what’s popular right now. We came back with our own personal sound/style. -Kenny
How does it feel to release your first original material since 2013? Does “Glimpse the Sun” sound like the band you were 12 years ago, or does it feel like something entirely new born from your experiences since?
It feels amazing! Glimpse the Sun has elements from our previous record, Luck of the Draw, but is also the first song we’ve ever done on super low tuned 7 string guitars. -Aaron
It feels amazing! This band has always felt like home to me. Writing songs together again just came naturally, like we didn’t spend the last 12 years apart from each other. -Kenny
Aaron, you mixed and mastered the track, with Kenneth engineering. What was it like stepping into that producer role for the band’s comeback? Did you have a specific sonic goal to modernize your sound while retaining its core identity?
It was nerve wracking for sure. I did the production on our last couple things before Glimpse but this song just had a huge weight to it that I knew I couldn’t let the guys down and I needed to live up to the quality of our previous record. -Aaron
