Native Brookynite, Marla Mase, is a powerhouse of talent, energy and perseverance. She has lived in NYC her entire life, became a mother, a successful entrepreneur as well as an accomplished playwright, actress, recording artist and record label executive. In 2009, she met True Groove Records Founder & CEO Tomás Doncker and would later become the COO of the Brooklyn-based label. Since then, she has recorded and released 9 albums with True Groove and toured throughout the US, the UK, Europe and China. In the summer of 2024, she went on her third whirlwind tour of the UK, promoting her eighth and ninth album releases, The Fine Art of Pissing in the Bushes and Infinite They Went (vinyl).In addition to her music, Marla recently toured with Being Somebody, a show she co-wrote and performed alongside her 89-year-old father, Dr. Howard Mase, to sold-out audiences along the East Coast. Her other theatrical works have been featured at prestigious venues such as La MaMa ETC, NYC SummerStage, NJPAC, SXSW, and Nuyorican Poets Café, among others.Marla Mase is also the founder of The Lael Project a tribute to the legacy and wish of her daughter Lael Summer, who died by suicide in 2017, ‘to help just one person’ struggling with depression and suicidality. | | |
