Marla Lewis, New Jersey-born singer/songwriter, grew up listening to Ella Fitzgerald, big band, folk music from around the world, the Beatles, Laura Nyro, Carole King, James Taylor, Michael Franks, and Phoebe Snow, to name a few. For 25 years as an elementary school teacher, she began writing educational and fun songs for children. One of them, “Leap of Faith,” co-written with Nancy Schimmel, appeared on a GRAMMY-winning children’s album in 2011, entitled ALL ABOUT BULLIES…BIG AND SMALL.
“Enchantée” is Marla’s first single from her new EP, SONGBOOK VOLUME 2, her latest journey back to the smooth jazz and American Standards that she has always loved. Produced by two-time Grammy-winning producer/engineerBob Stander, and featuring Teddy Kumpel (guitar), Rob Jost (bass), Matt Miller (drums), Mike Ricchuiti (piano), Erik Lawrence (Sax), and Adam Minkoff and Gabby Scherba (Background vocals), these six tracks will transport to you a magical world of samba, swing, and romance.
Marla’s first smooth jazz album, SONGBOOK, also produced by Bob Stander, contains 14 original songs that have been described as “pure bliss!”
Marla has released several award-winning Children’s albums (I LOVE TO TALK TO PLANTS, 2009, and WE ALL LAUGH IN THE SAME LANGUAGE, 2007) with Bob Stander. Her records have won Parent’s Choice Gold and NAPPA Gold, and her songs have won First Prize and Finalist in national and international song competitions.
Marla’s goal is for her songs to delight people around the world.
