That an artist just blew up. It almost never happens anymore. People love the story, but there’s always something going on behind the scenes that people don’t know about.
2. “What advice would you give to someone wanting to enter the music industry?”
Stay as far away from it as possible.
The Rock once said, “know your role and shut your mouth.” Really understanding your place as a band in any scenario helps a lot. Whether it’s a tour package, a record deal, etc. Knowing what you’re worth and what you aren’t worth is something you should definitely be aware of
4. “What has been your biggest accomplishment in your career thus far?”
The fact that we’re still a band and still like each other after 10+ years!
.
5. “What do you wish you had known when you started out?”
How to let things go and not take things personally. Early on we’d really get down on ourselves if we didn’t get a particular tour or show or whatever. We didn’t realize at the time that it usually has very little to do with talent and more to do with other factors like trends at the time or this artist or label or industry pro is looking for something specific.
6. “What led you to becoming a singer-songwriter?”
.
7. “What do you think is your unique skill(s) that has helped you become successful?”
Assigning each other certain jobs that play to our strengths has helped immensely. Nate is more people oriented, so he is better at building relationships. Eric is more blunt and to the point, so he is better at the business side.
8. “How was your journey to what you do now?”
It’s a damn rollercoaster. We wouldn’t have it any other way
9. “How did this project begin?”
We met in a small town, playing in two separate bands that played together a lot. When our main bands dissolved, it seemed like a no-brainer to start INTHEWHALE
10. “What makes this project different from “past projects?”
We’re a two-piece which is unique (though not as unique as people think), and we’re much much much more aggressive.
.
11. “What’s the inspiration behind this project?”
We’re inspired by everything and anything that’s happening in our lives from breakups to politics. Lately it’s been about corruption and the state of the world
12. “What word or phrase would you use to describe this project?”
Passion
13. “How can listeners get in touch with or support you?”
Stream us on Spotify or come to a show.
14. “What is coming up for you in the near future?”
We’re releasing our very first full length record in October!
15. “Many people believe that becoming a musical artist is challenging to the point it
becomes overwhelming and too much to handle. Why do you think people believe that?”
BECAUSE IT’S TRUE! If you want to be a musician, it needs to be something you have to do, not something you want to do.
16. “What’s the most common reason for people failing or giving up?”
In regards to music, it really can take a toll on your relationships. We’ve missed weddings, funerals, and overall quality time with family and friends for this project.
.
17. “What is your favorite word?”
Sriracha
18. “What are you not very good at?”
Paying attention in movies
19. “If you could have one superpower, what would it be?”
Super strength. Think of the things you could get done
20. “If you were a type of food, what type of food would you be?”
Sushi
21. “If you could switch lives with someone for a day, who would you choose?”
Shaquille O’Neal
