| More about the band:Mangata is a prog-pop band spreading the ‘Lollipop Gospel’ from the musical melting pot that is Southern Louisiana. Borne out of the fusion of a variety of cultures and bringing together everything from jazz to post-rock by way of indie, Mangata have a distinct musical vision paired with an aesthetic of candy-coated existential dread. Their glittery look plays out across the bands’ photos and stage shows, making for an experience like no other. This unique look and one-of-a-kind sound has won Mangata fans across the region. The band formed from old creative alliances and experimental desires. After deciding to work together, frontwoman Hannah Gilley and drummer Jason Daniels quickly recruited local guitarists Ryan LaFleur and Gabe McCassey. In 2018 the band rounded out the lineup with bassist Zack Guidry. Since their inception the band has embarked on a handful of tours, carving up the south with a distinct live show. Mangata’s unique prog meets pop sound draws from the influence of bands like Hiatus Kaiyote, Circa Survive, and Explosions In The Sky. This mesh of ideas has garnered them regular radio play in Lafayette, numerous local awards and opening slots for Abstraction and Televangelist. As the group continues to evolve they are preparing to record a new album that they are currently deep in the creative process of. With goals of playing festivals across the nation and touring with some of their favorite acts, Mangata have the ambition it takes to grow. With an approach that can hardly be matched, their dedication to their vision has gotten them far. As they continue to spread it more fans are sure to take part in their growing legacy.
