WE ARE SOVEREIGN ANNOUNCE EMOTIONAL ACOUSTIC REIMAGINING OF FAN FAVORITE SINGLE

We had a lot of goals when we started talking about our sound going forward. Our last released EP, Luck of the Draw, is what we strive for sonically. It’s our “Gold standard”. -Kenny

In 2022, you tested the waters with the re-recording of “Day in November.” Was that process a crucial warm-up, proving you still had the chemistry and drive before committing to new material?

That was meant to be a one off 10th anniversary celebration for the true fans but alas, here we are! The chemistry was never in question, it was more of “is this right for the fans and us?” -Aaron

It definitely was a warm-up for me for sure. I hadn’t done vocals seriously in 9 years, so it was a challenge at first. But Aaron and I have always worked well with each other, so it didn’t take long for us to fall back into our old routines. -Kenny

You’ve described the early days as a “cornerstone of the Midwest metalcore scene.” How has that scene changed in your absence, and where does Farewell From the Gallows fit into the 2025 landscape?

The scene is totally different now. Slam has taken over! FFTG, though, has always been a chameleon of sorts due to how varied our writing can be from record to record. I think we still fit in just about anywhere. -Aaron

I’ve seen a lot of slam and death core bands coming up in the scene, but haven’t heard a lot about metalcore bands. Our old venues have closed down and some new ones we’ve never played or heard of are popping up. We have some really heavy songs, and some more melodic tunes so I think we can fit in with just about anyone. -Kenny

The track is for fans of Erra, A Day to Remember, Volumes—bands that blend technicality, melody, and heaviness. How have your own influences and tastes evolved since the Parallels era?

I actually stopped listening to a lot of metal around 2018 or so and was completely oblivious to the genres strides in recent years so I’m sort of catching up. I’m just a music fan in general, I like most everything from 60s doo wop to Necrophagist. -Aaron

I am constantly trying to find new music to get into, not just heavy stuff.  The algorithm has been helping me get into more music. My favorite bands currently are Polyphia and Periphery, but since those feel like obvious answers, I grew up on Backstreet Boys and they are still one of my top bands of all time, which tends to surprise people. -Kenny

You had a deal with Red Cord/Victory pre-hiatus. How has your approach to the music industry and being in a band changed with this comeback? Is the mindset more independent now?

We definitely didn’t have a great experience and actually signing that deal led to the breakup of the band. Classic story. We definitely aim to handle this on our own for the most part going forward. -Aaron

I’d say we’re going to be a lot more cautious and advocate for ourselves more than what we did back in the day. We were stoked to get a record deal, so we thought it would be a great idea to go with anything they gave us. Going forward I think the independent route is going to be our best shot unless we get a very good offer that we would be stupid to refuse. -Kenny

Lyrically, “Glimpse the Sun” suggests hope and self-discovery. Is this a thematic direction for the upcoming full-length debut, or will the album explore darker corners as well?

The album is more a concept piece, composed from notes we wrote back in 2013. I would say the album has a darker tone overall but the message of hope still permeates, just as it has in our previous works. -Aaron

Glimpse the Sun is it’s own thing, a one off single  track that we put out to show everyone where we were musically. The album is looking to be hopeful and has a theme of self-discovery for sure, but there’s some other themes trickled in that I think others can and will relate to. We write songs based on personal feelings and stories, so I think everyone will be able to find a track they resonate with. -Kenny

What’s one lesson you learned from your initial run (2006-2013) that you’re applying directly to this new chapter, whether it’s about songwriting, band dynamics, or the business?

I think this era is all about having confidence in ourselves in all aspects, from the music to business, sticking up for ourselves and just generally knowing our worth. -Aaron

We didn’t really have a great business model back in the day, so this time around I think we’re looking at different avenues to take that don’t take away from the authenticity of the band as a whole -Kenny

For the members who weren’t creating music under this name for over a decade, how did it feel to step back into the specific creative headspace of Farewell From the Gallows? Was it like putting on an old, familiar jacket, or did it require breaking in again?

Playing the old songs and stepping back into the mindset definitely took a period of adjustment. It was less about putting the costume back on and more about rediscovering our past selves. -Aaron

I had stopped writing lyrics all together once the band ended, I couldn’t find musicians I vibed with as much as I did with Aaron and Christian. Our first practice back just felt like I came back home. It took me a little bit to knock the rust off of my vocals, but the writing aspect came back easily. -Kenny

The press release calls this the “beginning of the band’s long-overdue full-length debut.” Can you share any details about the album’s progress? Is there a timeline, and does “Glimpse the Sun” set its tone?

Sure. Glimpse the Sun is a standalone single that will not be featured on the album. The album is a concept piece in the vein of Dante’s writings as well as Paradise Lost and some of Cs Lewis’ writings. The album is slated for release late next year. -Aaron

We have a lot of the music  skeleton written. I’m holding us up by not writing my patterns and lyrics. I have ideas and I’m listening to some specific artists to get inspiration for said ideas. -Kenny

What does the band name, Farewell From the Gallows, mean to you now, after a long hiatus and a return? Has its significance changed?

The name to me has always meant legacy. It’s basically saying: what will you leave behind when you leave this world? -Aaron

Sorry to get so dark, but I had almost taken my own life about a year prior to starting this band so the band name has always been a reminder to me about where I’ve been and how far I’ve come. -Kenny

What’s the one thing you missed most about being in Farewell From the Gallows during those 12 years, and what’s the one thing you’re most excited about now that you’re back?

I think, honestly, the brotherhood and camaraderie. I think Im most excited to just hit the stage and take the world by storm with my brothers at my side. -Aaron

Being able to write music with the best musicians I know. I’m really looking forward to playing shows again and seeing other people getting into our music. -Kenny

For the fans who waited over a decade, and for new listeners discovering you now, what is your promise with this comeback? What can they expect from the future of Farewell From the Gallows?

I think you can expect a whole lot. Music video is on the way for Glimpse the Sun. Album and 20th anniversary show next year as well as festival appearances, interviews, etc etc. -Aaron

We’re the same band that we were 12 years ago. Just a little older and with more life experience. You’re going to get the 2010s metalcore complete with catchy riffs, shredding solos, heartfelt lyrics, and brutal breakdowns. -Kenny
