1. “What’s a common myth about Indepependent Artists and can you debunk it?
Enrico Lanciaprima – Well, maybe some people view independent Artists as not good enough or not “coomercial” enough, in the sense that some major companies don’t know how to sell a band that’s not easily indentifiable or doesn’t fit a specific genre. This was the case for us, as we like to make records that are diverse and a little experimenal and some people donìt know how to categorize us.
2 – What advice would you give to someone wanting to enter the music industry?
I’ d tell ’em to develop a style of their own, to work a lot on image and looks, these days to play good music is not enough, youmust put on a “show” when you play live, something people won’t forget. Promotion through social networks is also important.
3. “Are there any resources or even advice that have really helped you on your journey?
To rehearse a lot and to work on the chemistry among the members of the band, both musical and personal
4. “What has been your biggest accomplishment in your career thus far?”
I think that to have released 4 albums and contributed to more 4 tribute projects with an important independent label in 14 years is a big accomplishment in itself, considering the times we’re living in, also our UK tour 10 years ago.
.
5. “What do you wish you had known when you started out?”
That it’s vey important to invest a lot of money in your band, Labels don’t do that anymore, they can help you(and BWR has helped us), but you have to do your part too, investing both money and time in your group.
6. “What led you to becoming a singer-songwriter?”
Well, as a kid I was very influenced by people like Lemmy, Gene Simmons, Geddy Lee,bassists who used to sing, play bass and write songs, also Page, Iommy, Fripp, Tom Warrior etc. all people who had a vision regarding how their band would have sounded and looked and how to develop their style through the years.
.
7. “What do you think is your unique skill(s) that has helped you become successful?”
I don’t try to copy anybody, even though you can hear my influences of course, but I’ve always tried to make music that was unpredictable, especially in structure, some of our songs dont have a “chorus”, they are not constructed with the usual song – structure, they have different and unpredictable sections, in a more progressive way so to speak.
8. “How was your journey to what you do
Now?”
It’s been long and difficult, I’ve played with other bands before Blue Dawn that did almost nothing, then I found the right people and started recording material I had written many years before, in the original line uo I was the only writer, now te two guitar players help me a lot. My town Genoa has always had a big musical scene, with musicians like me who grew up listening to seventies Hard Rock, Dark sound, Prog Rock and eighties metal, from Black Sabbath to King Crimson, from Roxy Music to Celtic Frost to Joy Division. We were also very influenced by Dark/Horror movies and tv shows and literature, all this helped me to develop a sound and a landscape for my music.
9. “How did this project begin?”
We formed in early 2009 when I met Andrea, the drummer and we found the other guys through advertisements, we jammed for months and then we worked on my material and recorded the first album with BWR.
.
10. “What makes this project different from “past projects?”
Well, the musicans wre better, lead gtr player Davide Bruzzi also plays with Il Segno del Comando , pretty well known in Italy and he’s very experienced and not afraid to experiment ant try new things.
.
11. “What’s the inspiration behind this project?”
To create a musical mix of Dark and Heavy music with Progressive and Experimental stuff, like fusing Black Sabbath with King Crimson
12. “What word or phrase would you use to describe this project?”
That we have our own sound and style and that we’re doing something, like described above, that’s not been tried many times at all.
13. “How can listeners get in touch with or support you?”
We are on all important social media that I have enlisted above and also through our label, Black Widow Records.
14. “What is coming up for you in the near future?”
We have just plyayed at a release party for our new record and we hope to start playing live after the summer.
.
15. “Many people believe that becoming a musical artist is challenging to the point it
becomes overwhelming and too much to handle. Why do you think people believe that?”
Because they see big bands and musicians having trouble dealing with success and the pressure that comes with it and so they start doing drugs to cope with it, but it’s different when you play in an underground band. Certainly there are a lot of things to do and most people have regular jobs too, so it’s not easy.
16. “What’s the most common reason for people failing or giving up?”
.relationships within the bands members are difficult and often led to big problems. it’s happened to the Beatles and everybody else after them, it’s not important if you are a big band or not, a band is like a marriage, but with many people.
17. “What is your favorite word?”
Tolerance
18. “What are you not very good at?”
Cooking
19. “If you could have one superpower, what would it be?”
To make people try to understand each other instead to judge and fight
20. “If you were a type of food, what type of food would you be?”
mexican chili
21. “If you could switch lives with someone for a day, who would you choose?”
My heroes are too old or dead, so let’s say Johnny Depp
