Nationally touring and award-winning musician, speaker, and entrepreneur SaulPaul, is proud to release his new autobiography, Be the Change: A Story of Transformation, to be released this fall. Born and raised in Houston, TX, SaulPaul didn’t live an easy life. Living a life of poverty and eventually imprisonment, SaulPaul used his life experiences as lessons to transform into the man he is today. From felon to honor student at the University of Texas at Austin, SaulPaul now mentors and inspires at-risk youth to “be the change” and pursue their dreams as he was able to.
In Be the Change, SaulPaul writes his life story as if he were speaking directly to the reader. He says, “I wrote this book like I talk so there’s a high likelihood you might come across something foreign to you.” In his book, SaulPaul talks about how his experience in prison was life-altering, that in his case, changed his mindset and life for the better. “Having been to prison freed me from my desire to fit in…I found myself. That was the hidden blessing.”
Despite growing up in one of the poorest and most dangerous neighborhoods of Houston, SaulPaul eventually discovers his inner ability to look beyond his current circumstances and transform his whole life. He attributes this ability to the wisdom, compassion and unconditional love of his grandmother who raised him since he was 3. He says of his growing up with “Mama”, “My grandmother chose me. And that was the blessing. Instead of feeling left out, I felt special. I felt chosen. I felt wanted. And I knew I was loved.”
SaulPaul speaks on his mindset throughout all the different times and events in his life. He found he had a gift of intelligence that he later realized he could use for bad or for good. This choice is what takes him on a journey from an at-risk youth to failing out of college to incarceration and eventually being re-admitted and graduating from college with honors.
Today, SaulPaul is determined to “be the change” not only in his own life but in the lives of millions of other at-risk youth throughout the US that grew up as he did. Through his book, he lights the paths of others to follow and attain their dreams.
